Coaches: Stay Away

August 4th, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized

There was a benefit dinner for the Grassroots Basketball Association of America in Las Vegas recently and it was a bit of a fiasco. The morning before the dinner, the NCAA sent out an email to all coaches and other possible attendees, that it could well be a violation of league policy to attend and pay for this dinner. This is to say, if the money is going to the Grassroots organization, this constitutes a donation to the organization. Since the organization helps facilitate the growth and development of new prospects, this could constitute a conflict of interest and cause problems along the way. Thus, the NCAA decided to tell the coaches not to attend, as they might face disciplinary action. Several high profile coaches attended nevertheless, so it will be interesting to see what happens to them.
