University of Connecticut Woman’s basketball coach, Geno Auriemma won his sixth NCAA Woman’s Basketball title two weeks ago and now he was asked to coach the U.S. woman’s basketball team for the 2012 Olympics. Coach Auriemma who is 55 years old was only the second man to be named the Olympic Women’s coach, and coach Van Chancellor won the gold medal for the 2004 Olympic Women’s team. Coach Auriemma only become eligible to coach the Olympic women’s team after USA Basketball executive committee approved him. In previous years Olympic coaches were required to have WNBA coaching experience, but now coaches must have five year experience as either an assistant or head coach at either the college or professional level.
