Marquette is playing some of its finest basketball in years. The latest team to be left in their wake is then number 15 seed Villanova. Powered by an offense that simply took charge of the game in the second half, the Golden Eagles scored at will against the highly renowned Villanova defense. After committing 13 turnovers in the first half, Marquette clamped down in the second half, limiting that number to only 6. Jerel McNeal led the Golden Eagles with 24 points, including a critical 3 pointer late in the game that kept the momentum on Marquette’s side. The Golden Eagles have never started off 2-0 in their own conference before, and coach Buzz Williams feels this may be the year it happens. With the hard part already over, Cincinnatti should seem a much more welcome opponent when Marquette hosts them this Sunday.
