Pittsburgh Resigns Coach
October 10th, 2008 Posted in UncategorizedA bit of good news for the Pittsburgh Panthers basketball program: Head Coach Jamie Dixon has been resigned once more. While he was still on contract through the 2012-13 season, athletic director Steve Pederson decided to reel him in for a few more seasons as a sign of good faith that the program is headed in the right direction. He will now be head coach throughout the 2015-2016 season.
Since Dixon has led the Panthers basketball program to a 132-40 record since he was hired in 2003, it seems like a wise investment on the part of the athletic board. But taking the team through 5 consecutive 20-win seasons and two Big East Conference Championships seals the deal on this investment.
Along with his comfortable job security, Dixon has been given a handsome raise that increased his yearly salary to $1.3 million. In return for the school’s trust and generosity, Dixon is expected to continue his fine tradition at Pittsburgh, and perhaps lead the team to an NCAA Championship title as well.
