Key factors to the success of the Missouri Tigers 2008-2009 basketball season will be the return of DeMarre Carroll and Leo Lyons, two players that played with consistent inspiration last season. The two players led the team in most major stats like scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, and field goal percentage.

Carroll was named the 2008 Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the year and entered his name into consideration for the NBA Draft, but decided to instead return for his senior year and then begin work on his graduate degree. The 6′8″ 225 pound forward averaged 13 points per game last year with 6.7 rebounds and a .536 field goal percentage to boot. His pertinacity and toughness under the boards will give the Tigers a distinct advantage. However, his health may be an issue after he was plagued with foot injuries last year.

Lyons, like Carroll, considered the draft but will also return for his senior year instead. Averaging 13.1 points per game and 5.7 rebounds, the 6′9″ 240-pound player is expected to be a great boon to the Tigers’ offense, especially since his numbers only increased as the season continued. Last year, Lyons led the team with a .583 field goal percentage.

With these two returning, the Tigers will be a threat to anyone in the Big 12 Conference.
