MSU Player Is Quality Swimmer Too
September 15th, 2008 Posted in UncategorizedOn September 6th, the Minnesota State University basketball program was recognized for an amazing feat off the courts. Red shirted center Mitch Grundman risked his own life in order to save a man struggling in the waters of the Barbados.
The Minnesota State basketball team had taken a “late spring break” and headed down to the Barbados to play some basketball. Grundman and some of his teammates were walking along the beach in hopes of taking some pictures when they heard a swimmer yelping for help. Grundman and his teammates noticed a man struggling in the water about 100 feet from the shore.
With no regards for his own safety, Grundman swam out towards the stranger, grabbed him around the chest with one arm, and then swam back to shore with the other. This, by the way, is all without any lifeguard experience. When asked about the incident, Grundman is modest saying that he only did what he hopes someone else would do for him if he was in a similar situation.
The MSU Mavericks basketball program is proud to call Grundman one of their own.
