On Friday, April 11 2008, Tyler Hansbrough from the North Carolina University won the 2008 John R. Wooden award and earned him title as college basketball’s top player. He also won the Associated Press College Basketball Player of the Year Award.

Hansbrough was visibly pleased as he posed with his award in Los Angeles. The award was created by The Los Angeles Athletic Club to honor excellent college basketball players across the country.

While finishing fifth in the voting for the award previously in 2007, Hansbrough performed well in the remaining season to finally emerge as the Wooden Award winner this year. He has improved his game play and performance to gain 4653 points, beating Michael Beasley of Kansas State and Kevin Love of UCLA. He led the Atlantic Coast Conference and went to the Final Four but was denied the NCAA trophy in the end.

“I won’t let this stop me,” he says but is currently unsure if he will enter the NBA.
