Beasley honored with Big 12 Player of the Year Award
March 14th, 2008 Posted in basketball, ncaa basketball, teamsThe Kansas State freshman Michael Beasley has been voted as the Big 12 player of the year through a poll that is conducted by the Associated Press. Michael Beasley, a six foot and odd forward player of Kansas got 17 votes out of the 19 first place votes and he is the second freshman to win this honor, the first being his friend, Kevin Durrant, a player for the Seattle Supersonics. Beasley is currently the top player for his side and is averaging 12.5 rebounds and 26.5 points. He was responsible for guiding the Kansas State basketball team to the edge of its first ever NCAA tournament appearance in about 12 years.
Kansas State coach Martin said that he is pretty pleased that Beasley has been voted as the 12th Big player and credited this 19 year old for what he has done for the program as well as the league. Beasley was very successful in his first NCAA game where he scored 32 points and 24 rebounds and also has a NCAA freshman record for scoring 26 double-doubles. He has couple of B 12 records to his credit and he is on the verge of breaking the Big 12 record for the scoring average.
