Arizona to be coached by Olson next season
March 12th, 2008 Posted in ncaa basketball, teamsThe Arizona Wildcats team were a happy lot, when they heard on Monday that Lute Olson, their basketball coach, will return to coach the side next season. He will be back at the helm of coaching affairs at the end of the current season after a personal leave of absence. Olson said that he had taken this personal leave from coaching due to a medical condition that was not a serious life threatening one but one that needed rest and more time to recover. This statement, though, contradicted with the earlier statement released by Olson stating that it was a personal matter and not a health condition that has made him take the personal leave.
Lute Olson has a record of 589 wins to 187 loses in his 24 years as a coach for the Arizona Wildcats and his contract with the Arizona team runs through till 2011. Jim Livengood acknowledged that Olson is a legend as far as collegiate coaching is concerned and was pretty happy to see him returning to coach the Arizona team. Olson, who is now 73 years old, is the highest paid coach in the NCAA right now and his coming back to the team early next season will provide the needed impetus for the Arizona Wildcats to show their true material.
