Latest AP ranking sees North Carolina in number one spot
March 7th, 2008 Posted in ncaa, teamsIn the latest ranking of college basketball teams, North Carolina reclaimed its number one spot on Monday. Tennessee had taken the number one place last week in the Associated Press’ Poll when they beat Memphis. They however failed to do a repeat of the victory dance on Tuesday when they played Vanderbilt. North Carolina recorded a victory against Boston College stretching its win record to 27-2. The victory saw Carolina going back to the number one spot which it held for the first consecutive 10 weeks of the season.
Memphis with a win record of 28-1 had held the one spot for 5 weeks this season but now is settling at second place. ULCA with 26-3 improved on it last ranking spot of 4th, they are now placed 3rd while Tennessee with a 26-3 win record dropped three places from number one last week to settle for 4th place. North Carolina received 38 votes placing them in first place and 1,745 points from the national media panel of 72 members. They had to come from an 18 points deficit to beat BC 90-80 to win the game and the number one spot. Kansa finished sixth, Duke seventh and Xavier eight all moving by a point from their last week’s standings. Texas defeated Texas tech and dropped four places to 9th while Wisconsin selfishly retained its number 10th spot.
