Texas on a winning spree against Kansas

February 13th, 2008 Posted in Kansas Jayhawks

The great rivalry between the Texas and the Kansas NCAA basketball teams last season was in full effect again this season with Texas still holding the upper hand over Kansas by beating them for the third consecutive time. Monday night at the Frank Erwin Special Events Center in Texas saw the No 11 Texas Longhorns defeat their arch rivals Kansas Jayhawks 72 – 69. The No 3 Kansas Jayhawks are finding themselves in a pressure cooker situation in the Big 12 play and it was Damion James with 12 points and 13 rebounds grabbed in the second half that paved the way to victory for the Longhorns. The surprise packet for the Longhorns was Connor Atchley converting four 3- pointers.  Even though the match was not a high scoring affair, it had all the bits of thrills, big shots and big plays that were expected from these two teams. It was electrifying atmosphere in the jam packed stadium and to top it all the Texas scored a victory much to the delight of the home fans. Kansas had the chance to tie the game with 32 seconds remaining but Chalmer’s shot for a 3 pointer from the left wing rebounded back after hitting the rim just after the final buzzer.
